District Planning under Backward Regions Grant Fund, 1 September 08

To develop the capacity of DPC Members to prepare District Plans, the Institute organized two Training Programmes on ‘District Planning under Backward Regions Grant Fund’ was organized by from 1-3 September, 2008 and 4-6 September, 2008 respectively. The programme drew a massive response and was attended by 55 elected representatives of three tiers of Panchayati Raj Institutions from Sirmour and Chamba Districts. Apart from General BRGF Guidelines, the content of training included subjects like Decentralized Planning Experiences in Himachal, Enabling and Disabling Instruments in District Planning, District Planning Experience from Kerala and Karnatka, Planning at Gram Panchayat level including Micro Plan Integration of Plans at Block & District Levels & role of DPC which were provided by eminent Resource Persons- Sh. Jacob George, Associate Prof., NIRD, Hyderabad, Dr. P.P. Balan, Director, CRRID, Chandigarh, Sh. H.S. Ashoka Nand, Former Director, SIRD, Karnataka.

Sh. Sri Kant Baldi, IAS, Secy. (RD & PR ) in valedictory function, in both the programmes, emphasized the importance and need of Participatory District Planning to facilitate decentralized governance and participants shared their views, problems faced by them and their field experiences.
